Growing up I always loved anything that sparkled and my first memory of being given a crystal, was when I was around four years old. The crystal was given to me by the girl that lived next door to me, and her name was Maria. To this day I still have a very strong visual memory of the crystal which she gave me, even though at the time I was unaware that it was Clear Quartz, and I loved it.

That really was where my love and passion of crystals began, as a child it was about the colour, the shape and the way the light reflected like a rainbow through the crystal.

Crystals often spark images of gemstones that are used to replicate diamonds in the likes of costume jewellery. However, crystals also consist of semi – precious stones and rocks that for the most part, are a crystalline form of minerals. Crystals contain vibrational frequencies that alter energy and manipulate their surroundings.

Each crystal transmits its own energy and can be used as a tangible medium to manifest our intentions. Many believe that holding crystals reminds you of your intention and therefore amplifies your intentions. Crystals can and do play an instrumental role in many spiritual practices, as people incorporate them into their everyday lives, including being used in healing therapies.

What is Crystal Healing Therapy?

Crystal healing is a holistic therapy, which means that it focuses on the individual, treating mind, body, and spirit. Rather than just treating only the physical symptoms of disease, it also considers the mental and spiritual wellness of the person. The aim is to restore oneness of balance, to the emotions of mind, spirit, and the physical body. Crystal healing is a technique in which crystals and other stones are used to help give relief to ailments and protect against disease. The crystals act as conduits for healing — allowing positive, healing energy to flow into the body as negative, disease-causing energy flows out.

A crystal healing session should always be considered as a complimentary treatment alongside orthodox medication, and not an alternative.

How does Crystal Healing Therapy work?

Crystals have been used for healing since ancient times, by many different cultures. The history of this practice is ancient, dating back at least 6,000 years to the time of the ancient Sumerians of Mesopotamia. The Ancient Egyptian were among the first people to have adorned themselves with crystals — including Lapis Lazuli, Carnelian, and Turquoise — to ward off illness and negative energy.

Crystals and stones have their own assigned various property and frequency vibration, and the gemstones have properties that help to facilitate healing. During a healing session, the crystal therapist, will place various stones or crystals on or around the body aligned with certain chakra points. The crystal therapist will use the crystals intuitively, to shape and focus the energies according to the needs of their client.

The beneficial vibrational energy of crystals and their healing qualities, can also be experienced in the use of crystals and stones by being worn on the body, placed under pillows, in the home, office or car, helping to ward off sickness, shed negative energy or absorb positive energy.

Popular crystals and their qualities:

AMETHYST

This deep purple gem is often used in jewellery, amethyst is good to aid relaxation, help you sleep better and get rid of stress. Nicknamed “the intuitive eye,” this gem also balances the mind, which in turn encourages insightful solutions to problems and can help relieve headaches.

BLACK OBSIDIAN

Formed from molten lava that has cooled quickly, black obsidian helps you see—and accept—your true self (hence its nickname, “the mirror”). Working with black obsidian will assist you in cutting the stress and negative patterns from your life by first bringing them to your attention.

CARNELIAN

Looking to impress with some innovative problem solving? Or wanting to get those creative juices flowing, use carnelian, the pretty orange crystal that is known for inspiring imagination, motivation, and courage. A good stone for children.

CITRINE

Also known as “the merchant’s stone,” yellow citrine is used for attracting wealth and prosperity. Translation? While most crystals take in negative energy, this one clears it. Citrine, makes room for happiness and light so that the spirit is welcoming to a wide range of positive possibilities.

ROSE QUARTZ

This pink crystal is also known as “the love stone.” Rose quartz will help to open your heart chakra to every kind of love that you need—whether it’s self-love, familial love, friendship, love for humanity or romantic love.

SELENITE

Selenite has the ability to cleanse, purify and align you with your highest potential. Place the crystal on your windowsill or brush it up and down your body (about three inches away from you) to help keep negative emotions like grief, fear, anger, and anxiety away.
