You may already be familiar with Rescue Remedy, but the Bach Flower is a system of 38 energy healing remedies made from wild plants, flowers, and trees.

I am going to explore the philosophy behind Bach and the opportunity that the system presents to help achieve positive emotional change in your life.

Dr. Edward Bach: In the 1920’s through 1930’s Edward devoted his life to find a simple and effective answer to people’s emotional distress. Through his research and rigorous study of human nature he became convinced that at the centre of all distress and disease, there was an imbalance in the emotional outlook. At times in our life, we will suffer from some form of negative emotion; emotions of fear, suspicion, anger, greed, despair etc and these negative feelings can stand in the way of our contentment, joy, inner peace and good health.

Dr. Edward Bach suffered from ill health at the time he discovered the system. He found that whilst he was out in nature, he felt so much better within himself.

Being a Doctor of Medicine, he started to do his research and came up with this system, which he completed just before he passed to spirit. His life’s work had been completed and is now used world-wide.

He designed the system to be simple. It may seem daunting at first, but anybody can learn how to use it. What I find amazing about the system, is that it can be used be everyone. The remedies can be administered in several ways, and there are no contra-indications when using the system.

The remedies come in liquid form so that you can mix the remedies you need to help balance your current emotional situation. Like Dr. Bach, I believe that healing on an emotional level has knock-on effects on other levels. A healthy emotional life and a balanced personality will allow your body to find its own natural state of health.

It is okay to have negative emotions, we are after all sentient beings. However, it is when we allow our negative emotions to become out of balance, this is where dis-ease can start within mind, body, and spirit. The system is meant to be used, as a complementary treatment, alongside Orthodox medication and not instead of.

How it Works: The Bach flower remedies use the gentle power of nature, from planets and trees, working on a vibrational level. Their energy can help us to rebalance our thoughts, feelings, and emotions. Each of the 38 bach flower remedies resonate with a different thought, feeling or emotion and work to gently bring thoughts and emotions back into balance or a positive frame of mind.

Choosing your Remedies:

The remedies are placed within 7 groups, known as ‘The Seven Emotional Groups’:

· Fear – helping you to face your fear

· Uncertainty – know your own mind

· Insufficient interest in present circumstance – live the day

· Loneliness – reach out to others

· Over-sensitive to influences and ideas – stand your ground

· Despondency or despair – find hope and joy

· Over-care for the welfare of others – live and let live

The remedies can be used individually or bespoke for your requirements, specifically made up to accommodate your emotional needs. Up to 7 different specific flower remedies can be blended from all the groups.

Each remedy is associated with a basic human emotion. Mimulus, for example, is for ‘fear’, when you are anxious or afraid about something specific. Taking the remedy helps you overcome your fear and face it with courage.

Who can use Bach flower remedies:

The system is suitable for everyone*- including babies, animals, they can also be given to plants, which can be given safely without fear of side effects, overdosing or addiction. It is not intended to replace Orthodox medication or treatment, but to use in conjunction with, as a complementary treatment.

*Brandy is used to preserve the liquid stock bottles, which may not be suitable for all. However, the remedies do not have to be ingested, it can be placed onto the pulse points. If preferred the remedy can be placed into a cup of hot water, which causes the alcohol to evaporite.

How to Use:

You can take the remedies in several ways. For short-term moods and problems put two drops of each selected remedy in a glass of water. Sip as often as required until relief is obtained. If using the pre-mixed add four drops to the glass instead of two. Taking larger doses at one time does not have a stronger effect; but if you are going through a crisis, you can take more frequent doses to get through it.

For more chronic problems I recommend making up a personal mix of remedies in a dropper bottle. Personal mixes will last two or three weeks if you keep them in the fridge.
